Chakotra

Chakotra, also known as Pomelo (scientific name: Citrus maxima), is the largest citrus fruit in the world. It is often confused with the grapefruit, but it is actually one of the original citrus species from which the grapefruit was hybridized.

The Fruit: Appearance and Taste

• Size: Can grow as large as a small melon, sometimes reaching up to 10 kg.

   

• Peel: Features a very thick, spongy, greenish-yellow rind that is surprisingly easy to peel.

   

• Flesh: The segments inside range from pale yellow to a deep pinkish-red.

   

• Flavor: It has a unique sweet-and-sour profile that is much less acidic and bitter than a grapefruit.
